See you later!

Hello guys! I'm afraid this is my last bog post for this year :( We have completed our Material Design lesson. Overall, I think this lesson was a great opportunity to learn more about online tools and for us to improve ourselves as teachers. To be honest, I had many difficultes throughout these lessons and homeworks but I believe I only advanced myself. See, I'm not the best with technology. I had many struggles with integration and considering it's most of what I needed to achieve, it was rough :) But it's safe to say I'm proud of everything we've created. I worked with Görkem throughout this lesson and he helped so much with everything really. I also thanked him for putting up with me :D  Well, thank you for reading throuh this post as well as the other ones. I hope to see you some time in the future. Take care of yourselves and get vaccinated if you can :) See you!

WebQuest to save the day!

Hello guys! This week we talked about technology integration in the classroom. As we know, it is not very common with our usual claas books. So, we were encouraged to integrate technology to a normal class book. We did this by turning a regular project in the book into a digital one, using webquest.  First me and Görkem chose the project we will digitalize. We preferred superhero creation in the 19th chapter of our book, since it is a very fun activity. To start, we chose where to create the webquest, we chose Zunal . Then, we get to work. We asked our students to create a superhero on Character Creator . They later prepared a description for their heroes using a template on Canva . Finally, they exchanged their heroes with their classmates and prepared a poster on their friends' hero's, using Poster My Wall . all of the steps were explained very carefully on the webquest.  To be honest, this activity was very fun to create and I believe everyone can prepare a simple w...

Augmented Reality

Hi everyone! I hope everyone's been happy and healty! This week, we studied with augmented reality. We were instructed to create a lesson plan using it. To be honest, it was very difficult for me. I'm not the best with technology, so Görkem was very supportive with it :) Me and Görkem wanted to focus on traveling, so we decided to visit Berlin, Germany. First, we collected our materials. At first, we wanted to include 3d materials but every single application we tried unfortunately failed. As the next idea, we chose to use QR codes to integrate our materials. so we looked for videos, especially 360 videos. We wanted to give our students handouts for easy management. It was the easier option but it was not very satisfactory :(  Please have a look at our worksheets down below. You can scan the qr codes to travel through Berlin :) We'll see you next week! Click here for Görkem's post about this project.

Flipped Classroom Grammar Lesson

Hey guys! This week we prepared a grammar teaching video, using flipped approach. I worked with my friend Görkem and we chose conditionals as our topic. We began by studying the subject thoroughly. After that, we decided on how to explain the subject. We prepared a slide using Canva on the subject and started recording our voices.  After we were done, we created some handouts as well as a Wordwall project. You can see them down below. To be honest, this was a harder assignment than our other works but I can easily say it was educative. I was having a hard time with synchronizing the materials. In the end, it turned out pretty well :) If you have time, please take a look at our video :) See you in the next assignment... Also, here is Görkem's post about our work. Here's the puzzle we've created on Wordwall. Here are the worksheets we created.

FLIPPED CLASSROOM APPROACH

Hi guys! This week, we studied on flipped classroom approach. To be honest, I didn't know this was a thing! If I explain it very simply, I can say it's like online teaching, but definitely better. You get to create a video of your lesson, then share it with the class so that they can learn at their own pace. There's no time limitations whatsoever. I think it's a pretty fun process for the teacher and the student, if they are good with online tools :)  We got to make a flipped lesson with Görkem and we'd like to share the steps we took with you! Also, you are welcomed to check our lesson down below :) As the first step ,  we chose our focus, which ended up being vocabulary. After doing some research on the vocabulary group, we got to work. We chose to work with fifth graders and picked unit two called my town. After that, we created a slide on Canva . Did you know it enables you to embed sounds into the slide? We did just that :) After thoroughly preparing our slid...
Hellooo!!! I'm back with a new project :) This week we focused on corpus. What is corpus, you may ask. I can say it's a teachers dream :) It is formulated linguistic data that you can use to determine how a word can be used. Basically, if you require a sentence with a specific word in it, you can find it at lextutor.ca .  Besides corpus, we learned about language awareness tasks. It can be explained as student driven learning. An example of language awareness task would be our task down below :) Görkem and I were given a language teaching book and we chose a chapter and subject. Our purpose was to give students a worksheet that makes them realize about the use of the subject on their own.  Take a look at this example we created and don't be afraid to ask questions if you have any :) Also make sure to check my friend Görkem's blog here . See you soon :)
Hello everyone ! It is so good to be back here with you. After struggling to find motivation to write here, I was blessed to work with one of my favorite teachers again!!! She's the little push I needed to come back so let's thank her for that :D  After a full year of coronavirus, everything seemed to be going wrong in every way. I had no motivation, I was, still am, terrified for my life, I was tired etc. After contemplating my life style, I decided to change it up a bit to accommodate this new era. I started focusing more on natural life rather than the life we created with money. I can say it's going great so far.  I'm really excited to come back here! I hope all is going well with you too. Hope to see you soon :) Wear a mask, save lives :)

Goodbye everyone, have a great vacation!

Hello there! This is our last week of school and I wanted to reflect on this terms Educational Technologies class. First of all, I want to thank my lecturer for all her efforts and her wisdom. I learned so many things about teaching and using technology for pedagogy. If I were to create a KWL chart (😊), I would say I knew nothing, basically. There were a few things I was curious about, like how to blog, how to create word clouds, how to edit a video... I learned all of the above and many more; I learned many pedagogical websites that me and my students will use for sure, I learned how I can contribute to my student's digital life, as well as their physical life, I learned how my work at school shouldn't have to be limited to school grounds, I learned how to be a different teacher… I think the most important part of this lesson was how our teacher guided us through the process, as a 21st century teacher, instead of giving us the concrete information. We learned wha...

My Magazine: The Backpacker

Hello there! This week, my goal was to create a magazine cover. Even though it took a while to make it, I had fun creating it. My first goal was to choose my topic. I decided on traveling because it is a topic where I can find many resources. Later, I picked some "articles" that will be on my cover and some photos that I can use. After that, I looked for a website that would help me create a cover. I picked venngage because it gives you templates to work on but the whole thing is limited to your creativity. The last step was me being creative :). I will share my cover down below and I hope you'll like it.

WEB 2.0 TOOLS

Hello there! This week our task was to explore web 2.0 tools and pick 3 of them to create an infographic. I knew a part of them but I learned so many more. We learned about Padlet in class, for example, but I learned about vialogues and lessonwriter as well. Vialogues is a tool where you can create video discussion. Lessonwriter is a tool that you can share paragraphs for reading class and the tool will generate material for you. These are not the only ones I found but they are what interested me. I will share my infographic down below and I hope you'll like it.

Digital Storytelling

Digital Storytelling! Hello there! This week we attempted digital storytelling! What is digital storytelling you might ask, it is a short form of digital media production that allows everyday people to share aspects of their story (retrieved from wikipedia.com ). So, me and my friend Melissa decided to make a storytelling video. First step we took was to come up with a story to tell. It really pushed our imagination to it's limits. After deciding, we did some research on (spoiler alert) dinosaurs. Since Melissa came up with the idea, she wrote the script, and I planned our video. After planning, we recorded our voices and retrieved our visuals from pixton.com . At this step, I was a little confused because I needed to edit a video, which I have never done before. A few trials later, I finished the video!!  Now is the time to get your feedback. Please check our video below and tell us what you think. One of the many problems we have: Traffic

Hello there! This week, me and my friends, Tuba and Elif , created a padlet. Padlet is an online wall where you can share your own ideas and opinions. You can also use it as a group, like us. We decided that we will share our ideas about traffic, but realized we don't know much of it. So we created a Kwl chart. Kwl charts have 3 or more sections that you can customize. We used three parts, left part for what we already know, middle part for questions that we have and right side for the answers for those questions. If you wish to check it out, it's right here! Hope you'll like it.

Wikiing

Hello guys, The topic of today is a way of practising English collobaratively. It is called Wiki. It is a kind of different and modern technological invention. It not only helps students work together, but also it gives the students a chance to get the correct information that they need to know. Wikis could be helpful during English Language Teaching Classes. We would like to share  our classroom wiki  with you that  me and my classmate,  Melisa , made as an example. For today’s class we were supposed to review a movie. We decided to watch the movie called Limitless. It is pretty fascinating. The main character is Bradley Cooper. You can read our review here , feel free to read it!

Changing the world

Hello there! I created my first podcast about changing the world and it was a little hard for me. I think it's a deep subject that requires determination at its finest but so does the world.  Personally I think I would use podcasting in my future classes to hear my students' voices who sit afar. Another way I might use it would be to make up for the absent students missed education.  Podcasting can be a great opportunity to use in classes. I think every 21st century teacher should learn about it.

About 21st century learning

Education took a turn in the last century, for the better in my opinion. And I want to inform you about these significant changes that makes 21st century learning a whole new topic.  Back in the days, the teacher was the source of knowledge as well as the authority in the class. However, with the rise of the technology, the teacher became the mentor of students to help them find the correct information whenever they need. Remember when we were required to do the same thing like our peers, even though we were not really able to? In the 21st century, this changed for the better. Instead of doing the same and having difficulty in learning, there are many ways that teachers can use, to be able to reach everyone. Even though these are the most significant differences in the 21st century, there are many more topics that can be covered. I believe that everyone should do some research about the 21st century learning and know how our children learn or how should we teach.
